St. Ed’s Is Awesome!

March24

St. Ed's is the best!

Do you know about being on the sidelines while a high school game is going on? Well, I was on the sidelines at a St. Edward Eagles football game. My dad is the defensive line coach. It was nice to be down there with my dad while he was coaching. I gave the players water and a shoe cleaning. Someday I will be going to St. Ed’s, and I am really excited. It’s a great place to go; it’s big and the teachers are nice. The school is known for having a terrific education too. There are also many activities, like The Edge or The Trash Talkers. The Edge goes on during summer. It’s a couple-day camp and you get first looks at the classes. The Trash Talkers are a group of drummers that drum on trash cans. My experience was great! Now there’s a question I want to ask you: Do you like St. Ed’s or not? CLICK HERE to take my survey.

How To Make A Leprechaun Trap

March15

Catch yourself a leprechaun with this awesome trap!

Supplies
~ plastic or foam, or you can buy a hat
~ small ladder
~ scissors
~ fake gold
~ cage (optional)

First take the “hat” and cut the top off. Then place the top back on with gold on it [Make sure the top does not fall before the
leprechaun comes]. Then take the ladder and lean it up against the “hat.” If you want to make a security system, put a cage over it and make a trip wire halfway down the hat, inside it. Also you can put decorations on the hat, like a belt, clover or a cross. Have fun, and good luck catching a leprechaun!

Latest: Ask Miss Cupcake And Miss Candy Cane

March11

Need advice?

Question:
Dear Miss Cupcake and Miss Candy Cane,
My friend is acting suspicious; what do you think I should do?

Answer:
Dear ?,
What you should do is try to give him/her some space, and hang out with some other people for a little while. I’m sure that after a while he/she should be back to normal. Also, maybe they’re changing, because as people get older they start to act different, get moody, start getting crushes, etc. Our advice to you is that you should A) talk to them and see what is going on, or B) give them some space WITHOUT ignoring them, because that’s just rude.
~ Miss Candy Cane and Miss Cupcake

Dear Readers,
If you have any questions in the future, please write them on real pieces of paper, because some people have bad colds and when you guys use tissues, that’s one fewer tissue they can use. Also we check the box weekly, so if there is a time limit please tell us and we will try to get it up before your time limit ends. Remember that we are only two people and there is a reason that we don’t tell you guys our names, so please respect that and stop asking what our names are.

Sincerely,
Miss Cupcake and Miss Candy Cane

Science Fair Winners To Compete At CSU

March11

Students in many grades competed in the St. Ambrose Science Fair.

We interviewed Mrs. Hamsik about this year’s science fair. Here is what she had to say before the school’s competition during Catholic Schools Week.

Q: What is your class doing for the science fair?
A: Here are some examples. One student is purifying muddy water. Another is cooking different types of meat from different stores and is testing how much fat they have in them.
Q: If you were in the science fair, what would you do?
A: Something with magnets.
Q: What was your favorite science project?
A: The dissection of sharks.
Q: What advice do you have for your class?
A: Do your best and don’t let anyone tell you wrong.

There were many winners of the school science fair, including Brian Spahnie, Jordyn Verbiak, Jordyn Nuti, Hollyn Saxon, Samantha Edgerton, Grant Crabbs, Izaak Whisler, Kristian Abood and Matt Minnich. These students qualified to compete in the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair, which takes place March 12th and 13th at Cleveland State University. We want to wish all of them lots of luck!

Will Lebron Come Back?

March11

Would you want him back?

Lebron recently said that he is open to playing with the Cavs again someday. Even though he might want to, many Clevelanders don’t. Some say, “I will never welcome Lebron back.” Some others say, “He will always be welcomed back to the Cavs because he was so good here.” There is a reason why he should come back. While in Cleveland, he averaged 29.3 points, 7.04 rebounds, and 5.79 assists per game. Now why don’t you compare the differences. While in Miami, stats have dropped. He has averaged 27.2 points, 6.85 assists and 7.95 rebounds per game. Does this mean that Lebron is toward the end of his career, or does he just perform better as a Cavalier?

Noah: A Ray Of Sunshine!

March10

Mrs. J gives Noah some snuggles.

You might have seen Noah around school, but how well do you really know him? Noah was a dog that nobody wanted, and his owners threw him in some dark woods. Mrs. J found him when our school’s Noah’s Ark Ministry hosted an animal fair. Mrs. J. saw him while looking for a special dog at the fair. She was so excited about Noah she brought him to Mrs. Bopp. Mrs. Bopp decided to research him on the website for Noah’s Ark Ministry. She found out that Noah was between 1 and 4 years old and was born in a puppy mill. She found out so many great things about him and loved him so much that she adopted him. Now Noah is in training to be a therapy dog. A therapy dog is one that goes to the sick and brightens up their day. He is training to be a therapy dog at Best Paws Forward Training Academy, and when he’s done, he’ll help out kids at school. A saying from Mrs. J: “When Noah is fully trained, he will be a full-time Angel!”

Fourth-Grade Students Go Back In Time

March10

The fourth grade went back to the 1800s and 1900s. We had to do a report on some of the most important people of that time. The people who we got were from Ohio or did some famous things in Ohio. The famous Ohioans included abolitionists, inventors, suffragists, presidents, nurses and even doctors who did amazing things. The first thing we had to do was pick our person; then we wrote our note cards and did our rough draft. Then we revised and it was time to type it all up. We also had to make a model, diorama or tri-fold, and then we had to make a script and perform it. We all did very well and had so much fun.

Can you guess these famous Ohioans? For the first picture here is the clue. This famous MAN was an inventor who invented the incubator and the third rail; he also had the nickname Black Edison. For the second picture here is the clue. This famous WOMAN was an abolitionist and a suffragist. She was the first woman to be cremated in New England. For the third picture here is the clue. This WOMAN was married to President Hayes and nicknamed Lemonade Lucy. For the fourth picture here is the clue. This MAN served as the 20th president and also was a major general in the Union Army at time of the American Civil War. Please submit your answers in the comment section by March 28th.

A Trip To The Nursing Home

March10

Find a way to bring a smile to someone's face!

Every month I go to the nursing home with my friends. When we get there we first do a craft with the residents. The crafts are really fun, like the one day when we made pumpkins and the seniors decorated them. After that my friend’s mom punched a hole in the pumpkins and put a piece of string through each. So now the residents can hang them up in their rooms! After the craft we sing songs with them, and some even sing along! After about 15 songs we hope that they have a great rest of the day and we say goodbye. When I leave the nursing home, I feel like I did something really meaningful.

Are You ‘Radio Rebel’?

March10

Are you Radio Rebel?

Have you ever watched “Radio Rebel” starring Debby Ryan on Disney Channel? Well, “Radio Rebel” really inspired me to express myself and to stand out. Radio Rebel is about a girl named Tara Adams (Debby Ryan). Tara is a 17-year-old girl, and she is always shy at school and only talks to her friend Audrey. After school, who really is Tara Adams? Well, Tara is Radio Rebel! Her stepfather, who runs SLAM FM radio station, asked Tara if she wanted to do her show on SLAM FM. Tara said yes because she wants to take Radio Rebel to a new level. Her principal wants to know who Radio Rebel is because Tara told her fans that she goes to Lincoln Bay High School. When the principal finds out, Radio Rebel will be expelled.

What “Radio Rebel” inspired me to do is to express myself and to be who I am. It told me to take risks and chances in my life. Would you rather show people who you really are, or have your friends remember you for who you’re not? Also, do not be afraid what other people think of you. This is how “Radio Rebel” inspired me, and I hope it will change your life too!

Make Up Your Own Language

March10

That is really rawesome!

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to make up a new language? Well, my friends and I made one up. You speak the language by finding a rhyming word that does not exist yet. For example, you can change awesome to rawesome or sparkle to carkle. You take names by taking the first letter of the name and putting it to the back of the word. I’m going to tell you how to make your own language. First, you have to find a name for your language. Next, you have to find a way to speak it. Then, get your friends together and try speaking it. If it doesn’t sound right, you have to find another way too. After that, tell some people about it. There you go: You just made up your own language!

Happy Birthday, Ohio The Great!

February25

The Buckeye State

On March 1st, we are celebrating a wonderful birthday. In 1803, Ohio became the 17th state. There are so many interesting facts about Ohio. Did you know that the state flower is the carnation? Did you know that the state beverage is tomato juice? Yuck! The Buckeye state is our nickname, and the Buckeye tree is the state tree. Awesome! Our state stone is the flint, and the state reptile is the black racer snake. Wouldn’t want to race that snake! Also the state animal is the white-tailed deer, and the state insect is the ladybug. Oh! We forgot to mention the hot dog was created in Ohio! I guess your summer just got better. Well, those are just a few facts about Ohio. Maybe you can find more!

With God all Things are Possible

Why Do We Have Leap Years?

February25

February 29th comes once every four years!

Leap years are added to the calendar to keep it working significantly. There are 365 days of the annual calender that are meant to match with the solar year. A solar year is the time it takes the Earth to complete its orbit around the sun, and every four years it takes an extra day to complete its orbit. This is why there is a leap year every four years in February. In fact, a sixth-grader, Grace Harley, was born on February 29, the leap year. Grace said that she is happy to be born on a leap day because it is fun to try to figure out how old she is turning. For example, Grace will actually be “5″ when she is 20. Grace said that this February she will be turning “3.” She also said that every year there is not a leap year she celebrates on the 28th of February. This is what a leap year is all about. Happy 3rd birthday, Grace Harley!
