Players pray over teammate's grandfather.
Part of being a member of a St. Ambrose sports team is representing the school in a positive way and helping others. This fall our football team had an opportunity to help the grandpa of one of our teammates. Colin’s grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to spend time at a hospital. We knew we had to cheer him up. His grandpa is a sports fan and played football when he was younger. He was a quarterback for the University of Akron and got into the Hall of Fame there. This fall after one of our football games, we gave him a St. Ambrose football team jersey that we all signed.

We also put our hands on him and prayed for him. My mom took some pictures of that moment. Then we got him a frame and gave a picture to him. At the end of that he was smiling, and I felt really, really wonderful. We are asking all of our students and parishioners to say some prayers for Colin’s grandpa.

Go, Angels!
The fourth-grade volleyball team had an amazing season! One of the team’s earliest victories came in its third game. The St. Ambrose Angels were playing against the St. Brendan Patriots. The game was at 12 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2011, at Ohio Nets. The fourth-grade volleyball players are Jenna Barth, Alex Davis, Megan Stibley, Christine Schafer, Megan Taylor, Taylor O’Malley, Darla Rini, Kaley Miklich, Ashley Johnson and Olivia DiTeodoro. During the game, the team did an excellent job returning the serves and making great volleys. In the first game, the Angels won 23-21, and in the second game they won 21-18. The team was so cheerful that they won because VICTORY WAS THEIRS! Their season has now ended, and their final record was 4-4. They did a beautiful job at all of their matches. Hopefully they will all come back again next season to play as a team.

Bump, set, spike!
The annual volleyball game between the faculty and eighth grade was epic. Who was your pick to win? Surprisingly, it ended in a tie! That’s right: a 3 to 3 tie. However, the faculty had more points overall. Since I was watching the second part of the game, I heard students scream “Eighth grade!” Then, all of a sudden, I heard students scream “Teachers!” Were you happy about the outcome of the game? Well, I was just fine with how it ended. I have posted a picture from the second part of the game for you to see. I hope you enjoy it!

Alec Biller
Alec Biller, a runner on the St. Ambrose cross country team, ran “The Race with Grace” on Sept. 18. “The Race with Grace” is a race that raises money to help families of victims who have breast cancer. Alec ran 3.1 miles and finished with a time of 21:50. He also placed 6th in his age group. Alec trained by going to cross country practices and running in his neighborhood. He plans to do more races in the future. I was inspired by Alec and am doing a 5k in November. This is an extraordinary race, and I would recommend that everyone tries it.
